Questions
Q: When did you start making videos?
A: In the Summer of 2007
Q: How old were you when you started making your videos?
A: I had just turned 17.
Q: How do you make your videos? Any tips to others? Software you use?
A: I film with a “Canon Vixia” and edit in “Final Cut Express”. My advice to people just starting out is: Quality over quantity, audio over video, and always be true to yourself– if you’re talking about something you’re passionate about your passion will show.
Q: Why did you make your videos? Any influences?
A: I started making videos because I was bored and had a camera! I’d seen a few things on YouTube before but hadn’t started watching anyone particularly regularly.
Q: How long did it take you to become “famous” or get a lot of views/subscribers?
A: I would contend that I’m still not “famous” in the traditional sense of the word, but I started gaining subscribers as soon as I started posting videos. Growth on YouTube happens exponentially so I started out gaining somewhere in the neighborhood of ten subscribers a day where now I gain somewhere in the neighborhood of seven hundred subscribers a day. Determining, however, when I went from not being popular to being popular is a bit of a challenging task. A safe bet might be when I won the 2007 YouTube award for “Best Instructional Video”.
Q: What is the best thing about being a “Popular YouTuber”?
A: Knowing that a huge community of people cares about what I have to say There’s no better feeling in the world.
Q: What is the worst thing about being a “Popular YouTuber”?
A: This is a really hard question to answer– I love just about everything about being a “Popular YouTuber”. I suppose if I had to choose something I’d say how busy I’ve become, but even that’s not really a bad thing. If you’re doing what you love you never work a day in your life.
Q: If you could only subscribe to one person on YouTube, who would it be?
A: Wheezywaiter.
Q: Do the people you see often (eg: Friends, Family, Citizens of your town…) know that you’re on YouTube/YouTube famous?
A: Yes. Definitely.
Q: What is the best thing that has happened since being on YouTube?
A: The community that has grown and continues to grow around my videos, commonly known as the “PogoTribe”. The PogoTribe lives at http://pogotribe.proboards.com/
Q: Do you have any advice/tips for fans/people that look up to you?
A: Don’t be afraid to fail. Fear of failure gets in the way of so much potential awesome in the world.
Q: Do you read ALL your comments/messages? (Answer Truthfully)
A: Haha, no. I try but there’s literally not enough time in the day. The best ways to get in touch with me are through Twitter and my live shows.
Q: If you have a number/letter in your username, what does it stand for?
A: “Pogobat” is a portmanteau of “Pogo Sticking” (a hobby of mine when I made the username) and “The Aquabats” (my favorite band when I made the username).
Q: Do you have a girlfriend or is it personal?
A: I have a girlfriend. Her name is Danielle.
Q: What do you look for in girls?
A: Someone who is smart, funny, cute, motivated to succeed, and can keep me down to Earth.
Q: What is your favorite thing to do when you’re bored?
A: Play Rock Band. I’m a beast on Expert Guitar (If I do say so myself :p)
Q: What is your favorite thing to do with your friends?
A: I love just sitting around, talking. Board games are also pretty rad– RISK, Monopoly and Scrabble are my favorites. Did you know Scrabble was invented by a guy named “Butts”. That’s pretty neat.
Q: What do you see yourself doing in 10-15 years?
A: I have no friggin’ idea. The world is changing so quickly that it’s hard to know what things will look like even just ONE year from now. If I had to guess I’d say living on Mars.
